About us

A family kitchen, first

Two parents, two kids, Dexter (a dog who will try anything once), and one kitchen that's almost always busy.

The best evenings in our house start the same way. Someone asks what’s for dinner, someone else pulls out a cutting board, and before long all four of us are crowded around the counter. The kids wash vegetables and argue over who gets to taste first. Mom has usually found something new she wants to try. Dad is in charge of tasting. It is loud, a little messy, and still our favourite part of the day.

Mom is the explorer. She will go through the hundredth banana-bread recipe looking for one with better ingredients, hunt for bread with a crispier crust - sourdough is still unfinished business - and keep trying gazpacho until it tastes like the one from our trip to Madrid. She wants the dessert that makes the kids go quiet. Over the years that search has filled notebooks, screenshots, bookmarks, and the backs of envelopes. We recently printed the loose ones and put them in plastic boxes. There are about twenty of those boxes now. Some of the recipes became family classics. Some we still can’t find again.

Why we started

Looking for recipes online should be a pleasure. Too often it isn’t.

Most recipe sites are slow and crowded. You scroll past banners, ads, pop-ups, autoplaying videos, and a long story before you reach the ingredient list. By the time you do, the page has jumped and you have to start over. Even when you find a good recipe, there is rarely a good way to keep it, adjust it, or build on it. So we print. And print. And the printouts go straight into those boxes.

Cooking is also more than one recipe. We plan meals for the week. A birthday means a menu for twenty and a shopping list that has to be right. A holiday means dishes that have been passed down and deserve better than a folded piece of paper. Christmas potluck is the same scramble every year. We couldn’t find one place that handled all of that in a way that felt simple and calm.

So we decided to build it.

What Lucky Apron is about

Lucky Apron is a home for people who cook, and for everything that happens around a meal. It is meant to help you:

  • Keep your recipes together. Write down the family classics, save the new ones, and find any of them again in seconds.

  • Make recipes your own. Adjust them, add notes, and keep the version that actually works in your kitchen.

  • Plan the week. Decide what you’ll eat, leave room for busy nights and slow Sundays, and stop asking “what’s for dinner?” at six o’clock.

  • Prepare for the big days. Build a menu for a birthday, a holiday, or a dinner party, scale it for the number of guests, and know what to start the day before.

  • Shop without the guesswork. Turn the plan into one shopping list, so nothing is forgotten and nothing is bought twice.

  • Cook without the clutter. Pages that load quickly, show you what you need, and stay readable on a phone propped against the fruit bowl.

  • Share what you love. Publish recipes and stories, follow the cooks you like, or keep a private channel for your family.

Your recipes are yours. You decide what stays private. We are building the tools we want in our own kitchen, and we listen to the people who cook with us.

We are building Lucky Apron in steps, starting with the recipes themselves. Every step has the same aim: make the work around cooking easier, so there is more time for the meal and the people at the table.
